sometimes i get excited when i realise that i do speak a language other than english. maybe even two others.
i speak bislama fairly confidently; i can easily respond and converse with former colleagues from the time i spent there in 2006/07. we chat on the internet sometimes, and the beauty of a pidgin/creole language is that there’s no right way to spell a word, or to construct a sentence, and so my responses seem to make sense. and i can interchange english, french and bislama words and it all makes sense to both of us.
canada i stap long summer nao! weather here i hot we i hot mo hemi humid tumas.
and then over the past few days i’ve realised i’m pretty fluent in html, and am getting there in php. it’s taking me a few years to even get my head around how php even works, but now i can wrangle the lettersĀ and symbols and work things out to make some sense and display images and words on the screen where i want them to go.
